    Vietnam visa for European citizens

22 European passports are visa-free; the rest need the e-visa.

Citizens of 22 European countries can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days: Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Passports from the rest of Europe need a visa, and every one of them can get the e-visa online: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia and Ukraine. Vietnam visa for UAE, Saudi Arabia and Gulf citizens

Yes - every Gulf and Arab passport needs a visa, and all of them can get the e-visa.

No Gulf or Arab passport is on Vietnam's visa-free list, so citizens of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain need a visa, as do travellers from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and the rest of the Arab world. All of them can apply for the e-visa online, for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. It costs A$99 (about AED 255) for UAE passports and A$99 (about SAR 261) for Saudi passports, government fee included.

Living in the Gulf on another passport? What counts is the passport you travel on, not where you live. A resident of Dubai or Riyadh holding an Indian, Pakistani or Filipino passport applies as a citizen of that country, and can do so from the Gulf.

Vietnam has embassies in Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait City. Direct flights to Vietnam leave from Dubai and Doha.

    Who can't use the e-visa

The e-visa portal sets no list of countries. It is open to any foreigner holding a passport, except:

    • Vietnamese citizens. You enter Vietnam on your Vietnamese passport, so there is no visa to apply for. If you also hold another passport, you can apply on that one.
    • Officials on government business. Delegations and guests of Vietnam's state bodies, and the other categories in Article 8(1)-(4) of the immigration law, get their visas through the inviting agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
    • People barred from entry. Anyone suspended from entering Vietnam under Article 21 of the same law, for example after an earlier deportation.

Countries that don't need a visa

Being eligible for the e-visa doesn't mean you need one. Citizens of 39 countries can enter Vietnam without a visa for between 14 and 90 days, shown in the table above. For a longer stay, or to leave and come back on the same trip, they apply for the e-visa like everyone else. The visa-free list, longest stay first

    Frequently asked questions

    1. Which countries are eligible for the Vietnam e-visa?
All of them. Since 15 August 2023 Vietnam issues the e-visa to citizens of every country and territory (Government Resolution 127/NQ-CP). The official portal, evisa.gov.vn, sets no list of countries; the only people it turns away are Vietnamese citizens, officials travelling on government business and anyone barred from entry.
    2. How can I get a visa if my country is not on the list of countries eligible for the e-visa?
Since 15 August 2023 there is no such list: every passport on this page can apply. Some websites still show the old list of about 80 countries. If your passport is missing from our table, contact our team and we will add it.
    3. Do Australians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. Australian passports are not visa-free in Vietnam, so you need a visa before you fly. The e-visa is issued online for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. With MyVietnamVisas it costs A$99, including the government fee.
    4. Do US citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. US passports are not visa-free in Vietnam, so you need a visa before you fly. The e-visa is issued online for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. With MyVietnamVisas it costs A$99 (about $70), including the government fee.
    5. Can UK citizens visit Vietnam without a visa?
Not for a short trip. UK passports can enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days. For a longer stay, or more than one entry on the same trip, apply for the e-visa before you travel: up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. With MyVietnamVisas it costs A$99 (about £52), including the government fee.
    6. Can UAE and Saudi citizens get a Vietnam e-visa?
Yes. Citizens of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and every other Gulf state can get the Vietnam e-visa online, for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. None of these passports is visa-free, so a visa is needed for every trip. Residents of the Gulf who hold another passport apply as citizens of the country that issued it.
    7. Can I apply for the Vietnam e-visa from any country?
Yes. What matters is the passport you will travel on, not where you live or apply from. You must be outside Vietnam when you apply, and the e-visa is sent by email.
    8. Do visa-free nationalities need an e-visa?
Only for a longer stay or more than one entry. Citizens of 39 countries can enter without a visa for between 14 and 90 days, depending on the passport. Anyone staying longer than that, or leaving and coming back on the same trip, arrives on an e-visa instead.
    9. How much is the Vietnam e-visa?
The Vietnamese government's fee is US$25 for a single-entry e-visa and US$50 for multiple entry, paid on evisa.gov.vn and not refunded if the visa is refused. Through MyVietnamVisas it costs from A$99, with the government fee included and your photo and passport checked before anything is lodged.
    10. Is the list the same for the tourist and business e-visa?
Yes. The e-visa is one visa type with one eligibility rule; the purpose of the trip is stated on the application. Single and multiple entry e-visas are open to the same passports.
