Da Nang airport is minutes from the beach and the gateway to Hoi An and Hue. Here is which visa you need, what to put on the e-visa form, the pre-arrival form used for Da Nang arrivals since June 2026, and how connections through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City change things.
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is about 3 km from the centre of Da Nang, so you can be on the beach within the hour of clearing immigration. It is also the airport for Hoi An (about 30 km south) and, by road over the Hai Van Pass or through its tunnel, for Hue. International flights use Terminal 2.
Do you need a visa?
Most travellers do. Citizens of 39 countries can enter visa-free for between 14 and 90 days, depending on the passport; everyone else needs a visa before boarding. For almost everyone that is the e-visa - up to 90 days, issued online, and accepted at Da Nang since the e-visa was introduced. Check what your passport needs.
Direct flight or connection? It changes your entry port
Da Nang has direct international flights from a number of Asian cities, but many travellers from further away connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Which you do decides what goes on the e-visa form:
| Your route | Where you clear immigration | Entry port on the e-visa |
|---|---|---|
| International flight straight to Da Nang | Da Nang | Da Nang International Airport |
| International flight to Hanoi, then a domestic flight | Hanoi | Noi Bai International Airport |
| International flight to Ho Chi Minh City, then a domestic flight | Ho Chi Minh City | Tan Son Nhat International Airport |
| Cruise ship calling at Da Nang or Chan May | The port | The seaport on your itinerary |
If you connect, the arrival guides for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City cover the part of the journey that matters for your visa.
The pre-arrival form
Flights into Da Nang were added to Vietnam's online pre-arrival system in June 2026, after Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc. Complete it free on prearrival.immigration.gov.vn within 72 hours before you land, once your e-visa has been issued, and keep the QR code on your phone. How to complete the pre-arrival form.
If you arrive on a domestic flight, you completed your arrival formalities at the first airport and there is nothing to do in Da Nang.
From the aircraft to the arrivals hall
- Visa-on-arrival counter, only for travellers arriving on an approval letter. Everyone else goes straight to immigration.
- Immigration. Passport, e-visa (on your phone and printed) and the pre-arrival QR code ready. Expect to be asked about your return ticket and where you are staying. Check the date stamped in your passport before you leave the desk.
- Baggage reclaim and customs. Declare more than US$5,000 in cash or VND 15 million.
- Arrivals hall. ATMs, SIM cards, taxis and ride-hailing.
Getting to Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue
- Da Nang city and the beaches: 10 to 20 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing car.
- Hoi An: about 45 minutes by car. Many hotels arrange a pick-up.
- Hue: two to three hours by road. Hue also has its own airport, Phu Bai, which is an e-visa entry point too.
Going on to Laos or Cambodia
The Lao Bao crossing, on the road to Savannakhet, is the main land route from central Vietnam into Laos and accepts e-visas. Crossing out and coming back means two entries to Vietnam, so you need a multiple-entry e-visa. Every e-visa port of entry.
Frequently asked questions
Is Da Nang airport an e-visa entry point?
Yes. Da Nang International Airport has accepted e-visas since the e-visa was introduced.
Do I need the pre-arrival form for Da Nang?
Yes, if Da Nang is where you enter Vietnam. Flights into Da Nang were added to the pre-arrival system in June 2026. If you arrive on a domestic flight, you completed it for your first airport.
I am flying to Da Nang through Ho Chi Minh City. Which port goes on my e-visa?
Ho Chi Minh City, because that is where you clear immigration. Da Nang is then a domestic arrival.
Do I need a visa for Hoi An?
Hoi An has no separate visa. You need the visa that lets you into Vietnam, and Da Nang is the usual airport for it.
Can I get a visa on arrival in Da Nang?
Only with an approval letter arranged before you fly. Airlines will not board you without it, and the e-visa avoids the visa counter altogether. Visa on arrival compared.
How long before my trip should I apply?
Two to three weeks is comfortable. If you fly sooner, urgent processing is available on working days.
